Mercury Delivers Again in Healthcare – NHS Orkney Kirkwall Hospital
Mercury recently delivered the Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Specialist Services works for NHS Orkney Hospital in Kirkwall. Mercury was responsible for design, design development, verification, coordination, supply, delivery, site locate, testing and commissioning of the specialist works on the project.
The new hospital and health care facility is located on the outskirts of Kirkwall on Orkney Island in Northern Scotland, UK. The facility is circa 16000m2 over a ground and first floor and contains internal and external roof plant areas on level 2 and a separate energy centre. The hospital consists of 49 beds, comprising 22 acute beds, 16 rehabilitation beds, 4 cancer & palliative care beds, 4 maternity beds, 1 mental health transfer bed and 2 assessment beds. This hospital is unique in that it consisted of every type of department from Maternity, CDU, Endoscopy, Operating Theatres and Recovery area, Dental, Renal, HDU, Facilities, Emergency Dept, Radiology, Inpatients and outpatients.
The Project Director was Ciaran Kellegher. Other key project staff included Colin Conboy as Construction Manager, Giannis Michil as Mechanical Lead, Neil Wells as Electrical Lead and Stephen Corr as Project Planner.
