Mercury visits all-girls schools as part of Engineers Week celebrations
Mercury recently visited two all-girls as part of our Engineers Week initiatives.
Mercury’s Linda Coyne, Senior Planner, Jill Harmon, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Christie Idemudia, Senior HR Business Partner, Gillian Hickey, HR Officer and Donna Moloney, Data Technician, were in attendance at St. Vincent’s National Girls School, Dublin 1 and Stanhope Street Girls Secondary School, Dublin 7, to host presentations encouraging young women to consider a career in construction.
Students were shown a video highlighting many of Mercury’s most recognizable past projects – such as the Aviva Stadium, Terminal 2 Dublin Airport and the IAA Control Tower at Dublin Airport.
Linda Coyne, Jill Harmon and Donna Moloney offered their unique perspectives on what it’s like to work on complex engineering & construction projects as a woman, and answered a range of the students questions and queries.
After the presentation, students were awarded with participation certificates and were presented with a range of Mercury brand puzzles and gifts.
Christie Idemudia, Senior HR Business Partner said: “At Mercury we support women in construction.
“We gave these presentations to highlight to young women that construction is a career path than can provide them with unique opportunities.
“Just one out of every ten construction workers is female, and we are actively trying to change this statistic.
“Engineers Week gave us a great opportunity to reach out to what we hope will be the next generation of female construction workers.”
