Safety in Numbers: Mercury completes over 20,000 audits in 2020
Mercury completed over 20,000 Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Audits in 2020 as part of our overall safety strategy to constantly reduce our Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) and total recordable rates of incidents across Mercury. This included over 2,000 Covid-19 audits by Mercury’s on-site social distancing champions.
The audits encompassed a wide range of different areas including Weekly Compliance audits, Last Minute Risk Analyses (LMRAs), Environmental audits, High Risk Activities (HRAs) audits, Safety Management by Walking Around (SMBWAs) and Senior Management audits.
Mercury’s audits, conducted through Autodesk BIM 360, connect Mercury’s analytics department to our teams in the field, resulting in real-time information trending by project, sector, and the whole group.
As part of Mercury’s ongoing digital transformation, our EHS department has embraced new technologies including ongoing innovations which allow for onsite audit completion with photographic evidence embedded.
Michael O’Connor, Group EHS Director stated:
“Despite the global pandemic, we have not only maintained but actually managed to increase our EHS performance with virtual site tours now a major component of our strategy.
“Our Covid-19 controls have been a huge success and our consistent approach across all the projects we deliver, in all of the countries we operate in, is the foundation of keeping our people safe and our projects running.
“Our consistency was verified with over 2,000 Covid-19 audits conducted by our social distancing champions which allied with our existing ‘find it and fix it’ culture, giving our teams confidence that we are providing safe places of work for all of our people, supply chain and clients. Well done to everyone in Mercury for doing their part to live by our anchor value of safety.”
