Marking Construction Safety Week 2021 at Mercury
As a global contractor working alongside multi-national clients on highly complex engineering works within the Advanced Technology, Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical, Data Centres sectors, and more, our dedication to safety is embedded in our culture.
Mercury, as a proud partner of Construction Safety Week, is committed to further focusing on the safety of our colleagues, teams, and supply-chain members across Europe from 25-29th October 2021.
Ahead of Construction Safety Week 2021, Michael O’Connor, our Environmental, Health & Safety Director has called for all Mercury people and global supply-chain partners to pause as individuals and reassess their personal relationship with safety.
Michael O’Connor, EHS Director, said: “Construction Safety Week empowers us to demonstrate why our reputation as safety innovators is fully deserved and how we achieve best in class EHS performance in our industry year on year. Mercury continues to globally influence best safety practices in the industry and has led the way on multiple programmes across international projects that benefit both our own operations and those of the global construction industry.
“Mercury has achieved an incredible 3.6 million+ hours worked recordable injury-free in three consecutive months in 2021. Safety is our anchor value. It underpins everything we do. Well done to everyone who has contributed to making this fantastic achievement happen. Every week is safety week for Mercury, however, this focused campaign allows everyone to pause at group, project, and individual level and assess their personal relationship with safety.
“As part of our back-to-basics focus since Q4 2020, we have re-focused on planning, co-ordinating, boots on the ground, education, and influencing personal behaviors to eliminate deviations from the plan that lead to unsafe acts and conditions. Thanks to the dedication of our team members, we have positively influenced our supply-chain allowing Mercury to deliver over 50 projects, Lost Time injury-free, year on year.

“This outstanding achievement has been made possible by the ongoing teamwork and commitment of our people who are role models of best safety practices.
“I want to thank all of our people and supply-chain partners for their efforts and ask you to take some time during Safety Week to speak to at least one person about their personal safety performance and how this can be continuously improved as we strive for a work-life balance that promotes personal health and wellbeing.
“Please enjoy this week and use it as an opportunity to promote Mercury’s industry-leading health and safety focus. By increasing the number of safety conversations and interventions we can all contribute towards making our projects even safer. #WorkSafeHomeSafe”
