Author: Cormac Byrne  /  26th Oct, 2021  /  News, Environmental, Health & Safety

As part of our efforts to mark Construction Safety Week 2021, Brian Pennie, a motivational TED talker, author and university lecturer, hosted an inspirational discussion about mental wellbeing, which was attended by over 200 Mercury staff and supply-chain members on the National Children’s Hospital project in Dublin, Ireland.

Brian offered attendees deep insights into his own personal battles with drug dependency and mental health issues and offered unique perspectives on how best to incite change and positivity while overcoming issues such as depression, mental health issues and addiction.

Mercury is working hard across all of our global projects to promote awareness around mental health issues within the construction sector and the health and wellbeing of our people is utmost importance for us.

Speaking after the event, Sabrina Loughman, Group EHS Coordinator said: “Construction Safety Week 2021 reflects on all aspects of well being, including the physical and mental health of our people.

“Mercury is committed to creating a working environment where the safety, health and wellbeing of our people is our top priority on all of our projects across Europe.

“Our wellness programme aims to improve health and wellbeing through regular consultation, training and awareness initiatives such as our Making Safety Personal campaign and our Employee Assistance Programme.

“I’d like to thank Brian for giving this brilliant talk to all of our people and supply-chain members and would also like to thank our partners at PepTalk Wellbeing for organising this event.”
