Measuring and sustaining growth in modular construction: Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV)
Mercury is currently examining the use of Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV) as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) in measuring our modular construction growth across key sectors throughout EMEA.
PMV is a metric used to calculate the proportion of manufactured components within the context of an overall construction project cost.
Generally, a project that is completed using traditional methods of construction will display a low PMV, while a project that utilises a significant volume of modular elements across CSA, Mechanical and Electrical installation will have a higher PMV.
We are experiencing a significant increase in demand for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and are assisting our clients in developing their own strategies around OSA delivery.
Helping our clients to realise the true value in standardisation, and repeatability in design and engineering, results in a more sustainable project approach and outcome.
While the foundations of Mercury’s current Off-Site Assembly (OSA) capabilities have been firmly forged over decades of successful delivery in the Advanced Technology sector, sharing this tribal knowledge across our other key sectors has and continues to support further growth of OSA adoption throughout the group.
Our approach to modular construction is being utilised with great success in each of our business units, including Hyperscale, Enterprise Data Centres, Advanced Technologies, and the Live Environment.
Mercury recently completed a Hyperscale Data Centre project where our PMV equated to near 30% of the overall project value. Early engagement with our client on this project resulted in an enhanced Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA) output.
We are also currently in the delivery stage of a mega, Advanced Technology project, where we are recording high PMV values.
In partnership with our global supply-chain, we merge our OSA experience with innovative digital design, engineering and constructability know-how which enables us to follow and deliver modular construction methodologies for our clients, wherever they go.
The Advantages of OSA span across the project stakeholders and life-cycle alike. Benefits include enhanced project predictability, higher standards in health, safety and quality with significantly less environmental impact. Productivity improvement, better costs certainty, fewer site overheads and less local community disruption are all attributed to this Modern Method of Construction.
At Mercury we are logical by nature, and OSA is the logical way to deliver for our clients. We are continuing to invest in research and development to improve our logistics, engineering, design and delivery capabilities in OSA. With the most advanced and innovative digital processes and procedures further strengthening our bold promise to always deliver.
Justin Keane, Director of Digital Delivery, Off-Site Manufacturing & Digital Transformation highlights the following reasons for Mercury’s sustained growth in this critical space: “For those of us who have spent large periods of our career in this industry, we have previously witnessed false starts with OSA, this time it’s different. It’s different because we are now becoming “digitally enabled” to a level which allows us to remove risks around OSA. This includes building & programming virtually first, examining multiple scenarios and de-risking the processes in detailed collaboration with our clients, supply-chain and project teams early in the design process as early as stages 1, 2, and 3, if we are to offer the real benefit of our experience and the maximum value of OSA for our clients.”
OFF-SITE ASSEMBLY
The Offsite Assembly (OSA) market is redefining our industry and we’re leading the charge. Our expansive OSA strategy and capabilities will ensure our success continues to mount as we step into the future. As a prime contractor with whole life-cycle scope delivering design, build, commission and operations, we constantly evaluate modern construction methods to improve our delivery.
