Celebrating Our Differences: Mercury’s core Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives for 2023

By valuing and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, we can increase employee satisfaction and productivity while also developing new ways of thinking and operating. This is due to the wide range of experiences and viewpoints provided by our multicultural workforce.
Our commitment to these issues is reflected in our global workforce, which includes over 8,500 people from more than 60 unique nationalities. This diversity is a crucial aspect of our success, and we are dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating a more equal playing field for all.
In 2023, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team is implementing quarterly initiatives to further educate our workforce around key topics. These initiatives include “Embrace Equity,” focusing on International Women’s Day, “Building with Pride,” to celebrate Pride Month and focus on the LGBTQ+ community, “Celebrating Cultural Diversity,” to highlight the diverse backgrounds of our employees, and “Allyship,” to create awareness on how everyone can act as an ally in solidarity with those who face bias and discrimination.
These focus points are designed to educate our employees and help them become more knowledgeable about these issues. By celebrating our diverse workforce, we create a sense of belonging and demonstrate our commitment to our people.
While we know that there is still work to do to ensure that our workforce is fully fair, we are proud of the steps we have taken so far and are looking ahead to future opportunities to provide training and educational opportunities for all our people.
Our 2023 Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives:
Quarter 1 – Embrace Equity: Our first quarterly initiative is focused on “Embrace Equity” with a special focus on International Women’s Day. This theme is aimed at increasing the visibility of women in construction year-round and educating our workforce on steps to make the workplace more inclusive.
Quarter 2 – Building with Pride: Our second initiative, “Building with Pride,” will focus on the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month. This theme aims to raise awareness, offer educational opportunities, and provide guidance to ensure the workplace is a welcoming and accepting environment throughout the year.
Quarter 3 – Celebrating Cultural Diversity: “Celebrating Cultural Diversity” is the focus of our third initiative, in which teams take time to learn about the cultures of their colleagues. The aim is to widen worldviews, consider different experiences in decision-making, and enhance understanding to consistently provide innovative solutions.
Quarter 4 – Allyship: Our final core focus is “Allyship,” which aims to create awareness on how everyone can act as an ally in solidarity with those who face bias and discrimination through various training opportunities for the entire workforce. The aim is to ensure discrimination of any kind is not tolerated, centring non-White voices throughout our organisation, and collaborating with the African Professional Network of Ireland on several events.
