Building the future: How Mercury’s Graduate Programme has kickstarted Ala Alipour’s career
When CSA Engineer Ala Alipour discovered Mercury’s graduate programme, she knew it was the perfect opportunity to launch her career. In her final year of a Civil Engineering degree at Technological University Dublin, Ala had already gained hands-on experience through an internship in a company that specialises in cladding and roofing for data centres. As she considered her next step, a friend who had completed the programme highly recommended it, highlighting its dynamic, collaborative environment and the invaluable exposure to large-scale European projects.
For someone passionate about travel and exploring new cultures, applying to Mercury was an easy decision. With Mercury being the leader in data centre construction across the continent, her keen interest in this sector, as well as a solid educational background, Ala knew the programme was a perfect fit. Beginning with an immersive induction week in Dublin before graduates embark on exciting roles at various onsite and office locations, interspersed with dedicated in-person graduate weeks, she notes the engaging approach Mercury takes with its people throughout.
At Mercury, we all work towards a common goal. The synergy between teams is something I’ve truly come to appreciate.
Hands on experience and growth on large-scale projects
From day one, Ala felt empowered by her team at the Global Technical Realty project in London. “My team lead Jordan is great at delegation. He trusts me to take ownership of tasks and make decisions, which is crucial for building confidence. It starts small, but over time, you build on it. Now I’m coordinating multiple contractors on-site, which has sharpened my communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.”
Her exposure to subcontractors has been invaluable, allowing her to not only strengthen her soft skills but also gain specialist insights that enhance collaboration across teams and help the project as a whole. “At Mercury, we all work towards a common goal. The synergy between teams is something I’ve truly come to appreciate.”
A culture of diversity and empowerment
Beyond the hands-on experience, Ala highlights Mercury’s culture of inclusivity and support. “From the moment you step in, you feel the open-door policy. Everyone, including senior leadership, knows you by name and values your contributions. Graduates aren’t just observers -we’re given real responsibility and a seat at the table, and that trust fuels our growth.”
The camaraderie at Mercury has been a driving force in her journey. “You know more than you think. My managers saw potential in me that I hadn’t even realised, and that trust has been transformative. Being consulted on big decisions means I feel included and part of something bigger. I’m looking forward to taking the next step in my career at Mercury and feel empowered to make a difference in this industry”
This programme gives you the chance to travel, work on large-scale projects, and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds helping you to develop valuable and lifelong skills.
