Scope of the Role:

Reporting to the COO, this Managing Director job will be based in various locations in Europe. Working with the COO and owners to develop and lead a strategy of growth in Mercury and driving the business to achieve the goals agreed. Managing the performance of one of our Data Centre Business Units, as dictated by the overall strategy agreed by the CEO and Board.

Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the COO and EMT to ensure continued development of the Group and Business Unit.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Responsible for developing a client focused strategy encompassing existing clients of Mercury while being responsible for the development of future clients for the business.  
  • Responsible for developing and running a strategic plan for the Mercury Businesses which will clearly show the future strategy for the Company.  This plan will encompass innovation, new markets, sales planning and target setting, and will be reviewed by the board
  • Lead and manage Business Unit team
  • Setting strategy throughout the Business Unit
  • Corporate Development throughout the Business Unit
  • Involvement in Project selection
  • Deciding an organisational structure to adhere corporate goals and strategy
  • Compliance with Mercury’s Code of Conduct
  • Interaction with shareholders
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the business risk is adequate to performance of the business.  This will include overall succession planning and financial risk as well as good governance.
  • Responsible for developing a high performing management team. Actively engaging in the development of a robust succession plan for the Group management levels.
  • Ensure there is a safe working environment for all Employees
  • Has ownership on the development of the Business Unit budget and overall responsibility to ensure delivery of the planned results
  • Has overall responsibilities for Projects
  • Participates as part of the EMS and support other team members in solving strategic problems to ensure client satisfaction and repeat business from long term customers
  • Support the COO in implementing the Business Unit Strategy
  • Source opportunities for business development through their network
  • Exercise influence in a leadership capacity for reports, supply chain principals and clients in the relentless strive for Zero Incidents, Zero Injuries and high-quality standards
  • Allocate adequate & appropriate resources to projects to set them up for the success from the outset
  • Monitor industry changes and ensure Mercury at the forefront of innovation and best practice
  • Provide feedback on the quality of sub-contract work to continuously improve the list of preferred suppliers
  • Work with Commercial Director to ensure the timely payment of agreed revenues from clients
  • Contributes to shaping, influencing and developing HSE, recruitment, design process and project risk management components to ensure best economic solutions are achieved for all stakeholders and clients

 

 

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Experience of successfully delivering Data Centre projects
  • The ability to effectively communicate a compelling Vision for the future in a way that brings others on board.
  • A seasoned decision maker with good judgement and the experience to understand the potential impact of decisions on the other areas of the business
  • Has led negotiations with key clients on the most complex of projects
  • The ability to effectively manage performance levels of individuals, teams subcontractors and partners
  • The ability to think strategically when assessing project plans
  • Is experienced in actively promoting organisational learning and facilitates the transfer of knowledge
  • Has the willingness to drive an agenda of continuous improvement and a determination to succeed
