15 Mercury leaders, comprising members of the Executive Management & Senior Leadership teams recently took part in a Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Training session virtually with the Irish Centre for Diversity (ICD). The half-day session was completed on Friday, 2 October 2020 and focused on creating a strategic view of diversity & inclusion while providing Mercury’s leaders with the foundational knowledge and awareness required to begin building their ‚diversity literacy‘ as personal and professional growth. The session aimed to create an understanding of the unconscious factors that can inhibit or enable greater congruency between personal and organisational values.

The session was positively received by all the Mercury leaders in attendance and acknowledged as an important milestone in Mercury’s diversity & inclusion transformation journey. Johnny McFadden, Mercury’s Group Head of Procurement stated:

“Within the procurement function, the majority of our team are female and also comprise many different nationalities including Irish, French, Italian, Brazilian, Romanian, Indian, Mexican and South African. With this in mind, we welcome all the training and awareness to make our group more inclusive and understanding.

“Asari St.Hill, one of the diversity advisors who delivered the training made a statement that really resonated with me and my team, which was that we are a very diverse team which is great in itself. However, diversity doesn’t just mean our differences in appearances or beliefs etc. but diversity also means our similarities in many aspects of our thinking and aspirations.

Gerry O’Donnell, Operations Director within Mercury’s Hyperscale Data Centre business unit also regarded the training in a highly positive light.

“For the Past two years, we’ve been working on a large data centre project in North Holland. Over this period there has been in excess of 4,000 people pass through our turnstiles, representing over 40 different nationalities. There has been a lot of successes on the project with exceptional EHS standards, which is testament to the highly diverse team working together to achieve a great culture on our project. As the European data centre market continues to grow, all of our projects will continue to have large diverse teams. This training will support our management teams when promoting Mercury’s Diversity & Inclusion program on all our projects”.
