Mercury takes part in STEM-themed careers talk with Stanhope Girls School, Dublin
Mercury recently held a virtual STEM-themed careers talk for students of Stanhope Street Girls Secondary School in Dublin, where we highlighted the career opportunities available to women in the construction industry.
A presentation, which was hosted on Microsoft Teams was made to students, who participated in an engaging panel discussion with a number of Mercury employees who shared fascinating insights into their varying career paths and experiences.
Students also heard about the range of career possibilities at Mercury and were shown videos showcasing our Apprenticeship Programme, while also hearing from a number of our female employees.
Before the event, Stanhope students received Mercury branded merchandise and took part in the ‘Marshmellow Experiment’, and were given some great feedback from our team members.
Mercury’s panel for this event consisted of a range of employees from across the company. Many of these participants previously completed our Apprenticeship Programme and have since progressed into office-based positions.

Robert Bermingham, Electrical Engineer, former electrical apprentice
Christie Idemudia, Human Resources Business Partner at Mercury said: “This initiative was a brilliant opportunity to highlight the plentiful career opportunities available to women in the construction industry.
“Just one in ten workers in this sector are female and this is something that Mercury is actively trying to change every day. We are leading the way in our efforts to attract a high quality and diverse team and help to make the construction industry more female-friendly. Many thanks to Stanhope Secondary School and their teacher Ms Connell for participating in this virtual event with us.”
After the presentation, Stanhope Secondary School thanked Mercury’s Gillian Hickey and the Communications team for organising the event.
