Mercury hosts inaugural Safety360 Summit event
Mercury recently hosted its inaugural Safety360 Summit, with members of its Senior Management and twenty five members of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team in attendance. The event was supported by Mercury’s strategy advisors in Ingenium. The summit was a great success with high levels of engagement from all attendees.
The Safety360 Summit featured a number of speakers including Mercury’s Eoin Vaughan, CEO; Michael O’Connor, EHS Director; Robert O’Dowd, EHS Manager and Ingenium’s Director of Consulting Hugh O’Donnell and hosted by Ingenium consultants Alan Higgins, Mike Groves, James Ryan, Shubham Poddar and Mel Cowan.
The Safety360 Summit was designed to provide the context for Mercury’s Safety360 project journey, a core component of Beyond50. It also aimed to provide a collaborative solution-based approach to addressing current and future safety challenges and opportunities.
The event was delivered virtually through Zoom due to current Covid-19 restrictions on travel and gatherings, which enabled a group of 30 people to collaborate together in real time and ensured that everyone within the EHS team was given a voice.
The Summit set out to achieve five objectives in ensuring that Mercury is at all times dedicated to achieving the highest possible EHS standards; from a team and personal perspective. A number of specific topics were discussed including:
- EHS Functional Influence: How can Mercury’s EHS professionals build their ability to influence and support overall EHS accountability?
- EHS Performance Vision: As EHS Leaders, how can Mercury continue to improve its existing very high-standard EHS performance?
- Scaling EHS Capacity & Instinct: How can we, at Mercury, promote and sustain improved client engagement & interaction to best manage EHS project concerns and ensure our future successful relationships.
- Supply Chain EHS: How do we encourage & bring subcontractors on ‘The Mercury Way’ journey? e.g. our Process, People & Culture.
- EHS Systems Success: How do we ensure project teams are successfully using the existing EHS safety systems across all mercury projects?
The Summit also examined numerous workshop tools & methodologies including Innovate2Create (I2C) and the Personal Safety Plan SMART Goals.
Michael O’Connor stated following the successful event. “I’d like to thank everyone who took part in our first Safety360 Summit for attending and also to Ingenium for their advice and support. Safety is our anchor value and is embedded in everything we do at Mercury. Brave new initiatives such as the Safety360 summit will further help embed our safety culture and processes and achieve our goal of getting our people home safe everyday to their loved ones while achieving our stated aim of being the safest contractor globally”.
