Mercury continues to deliver projects safely through 2021 lockdown in Ireland
Mercury has continued to safely deliver vital projects across Ireland, the UK & continental Europe throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the start of 2021, Ireland has been in a Level 5 lockdown, a high level of restriction which has includes the partial shutdown of the construction industry, with the exception of certain projects which have been allowed to continue. There are a number of Government-approved projects in which Mercury is a contractor.’
With over 3,000 working under Mercury’s management in Ireland in 2021, there have been no cases recorded as having been transmitted on project sites during this period. This is a testament to the success of Mercury’s continued dedication to Covid-19 safety procedures including social distancing, hygiene, the wearing of face coverings, mandatory temperature testing procedures and antigen testing prior to site entry.
Due to these strict protocols and our commitment to early detection, Mercury has avoided any outbreaks or clusters across projects. Since the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, Mercury has continued to enforce and continuously enhance strict safety regulations on all of our projects in line with the government’s national work safely Covid-19 protocols.
Continuing Essential EHS Training is Vital
In addition to our on-site detection measures, Mercury’s staff have completed a number of vital Covid-19 training exercises and have continued to conduct general safety training while adhering to all Covid-19 guidelines. This has ensured that overall construction safety standards have continued at a high-level while the additional Covid-19 safety procedures are in force.
Safely Operating throughout the Pandemic
It is vital for the national and global economy that workplaces that can operate safely and adhere to social distancing, enhanced hygiene and Covid-19 safety protocols are able to resume operations, to deliver essential works and preserve our critical construction capability.
Mercury continues to operate in line with the guidance of the Construction Industry Federation’s (CIF) Covid-19 SOP, which Mercury along with our industry colleagues contributed to in early 2020 when the pandemic began. In addition, Mercury continues to adhere to the guidance of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the various government authorities, such as the Health Service Executive (HSE) in every country that we operate in and will continue to follow all applicable Government mandates.
We are continuing to keep safety at the forefront of everything we do, as our anchor value. We have introduced our Mercury Covid-19 Playbook, which outlines the minimum standard expected on all Mercury projects, containing specific instructions for social distancing across all works and site activities.
In addition to following the advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and local authorities, we have also introduced a number of measures including the introduction of Social Distancing Champion’s across all sites, who are charged with ensuring everyone adheres strictly to the social distancing guidance in place at Mercury as well as rolling out mandatory temperature checking across our projects.
Our social distancing champions supported by our EHS team completed over 2,000 Covid-19 audits in 2020 to maintain compliance and ensure the safety of our teams, colleagues and neighbours.
We, as a business are very mindful of the efforts being made by our people during this difficult time. We owe a huge thanks to our staff, clients & supply-chain who are working hard to keep our projects operating as much as possible, while protecting our most important asset – our people.
We expect that the current guidance on social distancing measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Increased testing, early identification and isolation of confirmed case contacts will continue to reduce the spread of the virus.
