Mercury hosts female apprentice networking morning at Apprentice Development Centre
Today we hosted a networking morning for our female apprentices to highlight the career and development opportunities available to our women in construction.
This event was held at our dedicated Apprentice Development Centre in Dublin, Ireland with a wide-ranging female panel, offering career insights, advice and support to our apprentices.
Panelists from across Mercury’s Business Units and from a variety of different backgrounds hosted an engaging discussion with an emphasis placed on the achievements of some of our female apprentices who have progressed through the trades to senior positions within the company.
Our panel included former apprentices, Linda Coyne, Senior Planner, Joanne Bradley, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Cathy Kane, Senior EHS Officer and we were also delighted to hear from our recently promoted Business Unit Lead, Aisling Goff who provided fantastic insight into her career with Mercury.

Also in attendance at this event were Sabrina Loughman, Group EHS Coordinator, Joanne Cluxton, Group HR Director, Niamh Gilmore, Group Wellbeing Coordinator and Conor Gray, Apprentice Development Manager.
Speaking to our female apprentices, Linda Coyne said: “I have enjoyed a wide-ranging career with Mercury having started out as an apprentice 24 years ago. I would recommend an apprenticeship to any young women who are interested in working in the construction industry. After completing my apprenticeship, I have worked in a range of roles, including cost control, quality and planning. The benefit of possessing a trade has greatly helped to shape my career.”
Many of our senior leadership came through an apprenticeship. We have various paths for our employees to progress into leadership positions. Female promotions as a percentage of female employees in 2021, was 19.2%, compared to 15.9% for males.
Today’s event brings a close to our International Women’s Day celebration, but we look forward to hosting similar networking events for our female apprenticeships throughout the year.
Our dedication to highlighting and promoting the achievements of our Women in Construction forms part of our ongoing commitment to inspire the next generation to become part of an exciting future for construction that places females and equality to the forefront.

Mercury is one of the largest employers of mechanical and electrical apprentices in Ireland. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices are awarded a Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) National Craft Certificate. This certificate has national and international recognition and is a compulsory requirement for craftsperson status.
