At Mercury, we place the safety of our people and partners first and foremost. Safety is our anchor value and underpins everything that we do.

Our Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) teams delivering the BER1 & BER2 data centre campuses in Berlin, Germany, recently marked EU Safety Week 2022, in collaboration with our valued client, Vantage.

Almost 600 people, consisting of Mercury staff and supply-chain members, were joined by the Vantage team for a variety of engaging safety demonstrations and exercises over the course of last week.

Practical safety demonstrations, QEHSS talks, and presentations were delivered by our EHS team & senior management, on important topics such as drop-object testing, using correct PPE for task, fall from & working at height rescue, fire extinguishing & rescue, Control of Hazardous Energies (COHE), and lock-out and tag out procedures.

As of October 2022, Mercury has successfully handed over 32MWs of IT space across both campuses, and we are proud to report that our teams have maintained an Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) of ZERO 0.0, while completing over 1.2 million hours without a reportable injury on Vantage projects over the past fourteen months.

This outstanding achievement has been driven by our EDC team and supply-chain, coupled with our client’s commitment to reinforcing our Work Safe, Home Safe ethos across these two campuses.

In addition, we have successfully inducted 3,800+ people since the commencement of these projects, and our EHS team has played an integral role in safely coordinating a number of complex crane lifts, while maintaining industry leading safety performance.

Alan Gorman, Managing Director of our Enterprise Data Centres Division said: “Safety is our anchor value, and it is essential for us to collaborate with clients like Vantage, who live by a similar ethos. As the prime contractor, we have been working with Vantage to safely deliver these two campus projects over the past fourteen months, and our safety performance has been first-class.”

At Mercury, safety is the bedrock of our training, planning, and delivery of every project. This relentless dedication earns a trust, security, and assurance that is second to none. As a result, clients like Vantage become partners, trusting us to deliver time and again on their large-scale, complex projects.

Seamus Reilly, Operations Director, EDC, added: “Throughout EU Safety Week 2022, Mercury and Vantage collaborated to communicate the message to our people and supply-chain partners to align, educate, and keep focus, as we continue to promote our Work Safe, Home Safe culture. We envision a long-term and safety-led future working alongside Vantage in Berlin and across other key regions. Well done to all our project teams in maintaining industry leading EHS performance throughout our Berlin projects.”
