Empowering our team to champion safety: The 2024 Construction Safety Campaign at Mercury
Throughout the 2024 Construction Safety Campaign, which ran from October 14th – 25th on Mercury’s projects across Europe, our teams showcased their ongoing commitment to the Work Safe, Home Safe culture that sets Mercury’s operations apart.
As the European leader in construction solutions, safety is something that we never take for granted. This year’s campaign focused on topics ranging from electrical hazards and COHE to ground disturbance and excavations, as well as a renewed focus on team-wellbeing to ensure our people are supported both physically and mentally to deliver the best results.
The mental and physical health of our employees is also a key part of our industry-leading safety culture. Wellbeing coordinator Niamh Gilmore led several important wellbeing sessions for our teams, discussing key facets of Mercury’s robust wellbeing programme, as well as practical tips for minding your mental health on a day-to-day basis.
Our people took time to engage in strategic initiatives including CPR Awareness Training, Ground Disturbance and Excavations, and Working at Heights demonstrations, devised and delivered by our QEHS teams and a number of crucial partner organisations. By taking part in such valuable education opportunities Mercury teams are equipped to face and overcome challenges they may encounter.
Some more activities that teams took part in included:
- Group-wide safety webinars
- IPAF Practical MEWP Safety demonstrations
- Arc Flash Demonstrations.
Michael O’Connor, Group QEHS Director noted, “Over the past two weeks, our people have displayed an exceptional commitment to Mercury’s Work Safe, Home Safe culture. Well, done to our EHS teams for delivering practical, inclusive, and impactful demonstrations and presentations to colleagues on all projects. I’d also like to thank Mercury and our supply chain colleagues who are an integral part of the Mercury team for their dedication to our anchor value and management for their continued support. We understand that without our people we are nothing and ensuring consistency with everyone going to work and getting home safe and well is crucial.”
