Scope of the Role:
Reporting to the BU Managing Director and Operations Director this person will be a self-starter working on their own initiative. They will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of all aspects of the Business Unit delivering between €150M to €200m annually across all projects. Leading and managing the Business Unit Team and interfacing with the Client Team this person will set clear direction and expectations for the Safe, on time, on budget delivery of each fully integrated build. The core Business Unit Management Team, of which you are a key part, will create the vision; provide leadership; set targets; create processes and procedures; manage the Quality and ensure adherence to all EHS requirements across all projects. The ultimate target will be Operational Excellence achieved by delivering a consistent approach and implementing Mercury Process and procedure across all BU projects and activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Mercury Procedures
- Ensure all Mercury Procedures are implemented consistently and are being adhered to on each of your projects.
- Ensure your team have fully reviewed and understand the Project specifications and documentation on each project.
- Plan procurement and ensure engineering is developed to meet deadlines.
- Review quality of output and foster continuous improvement
- Periodic attendance at planned project meetings, TBT, SLT, DABS.
- Weekly Meetings
- Schedule and chair a weekly meeting with your team.
- Follow up and ensure a timely close out of any outstanding items.
- Attend and actively contribute to EHS and QA meetings
- Weekly Audits
- Review project audit plan
- Review weekly Project audits and address open items with your team
- Discuss findings and trends with your Operations Manager, Project managers and your team.
- Ensure closure of all open Audit findings
- EHS Alerts
- Ensure that all EHS alerts are communicated effectively.
- Support the campaigns being run to reflect the alerts – TBT, Stand-down, Demonstration
- Ensure Workforce participation.
- Client Meetings
- Attend client meetings when required.
- Push strong QEHS approach with Client.
- Identify improvement opportunities.
- Share Mercury reports highlighting positives and negatives.
- Identify and communicate where Client approach needs change.
- Training
- Make training available to your team and your Sub-contractors.
- Set standards for training requirements for Mercury and Sub-Contractor staff.
- Project Weekly Report
- Review weekly Progress update with BU Planning Manager and implement strategies to ensure project remains on track.
- Weekly Planner
- Ensure the project lookaheads are being used to drive the project and build float.
- Review with the various Project teams to ensure your dates can be achieved.
- Ensure Sub-contractor Meetings are held and are being recorded.

- Ensure your expectations are clearly understood upwards and downwards.
- Empower you Management team to set up projects correctly.

General
- Working across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ensuring client relations are maintained.
- Understand strategy and pipeline for future projects.
- Manage the tender process from an operations function.
- Ensuring that communication between head office departments and the site is utilised to maintain an environment of continuous improvement.
- Identifying any skills gaps in the Business Unit and undertaking a recruitment programme to support this.
- Training of staff and managers to ensure that everyone is performing adequately in their role.
- Providing a leadership support function to teams and motivating staff to achieve production goals.
- Managing budgets and costs effectively.
- Acting as a liaison to senior management to keep them up to date on all projects.
- Ensuring key performance indicators are in place.
- Implementation of any new policies and procedures.
- Ensure that an internal contract review meeting is held with Mercury legal team and that the key staff attend.
- Fully understand Mercury’s contract position for each project.
- To manage the overall operations of the project, and ensure that the Safety, Quality, and Environmental objectives of the client and the project team are established and progress toward these is measured.
- Monitor and advise on the administration of the Client/Mercury Contract and on the Mercury Sub-contractor contracts.
- Ensure that the management systems are implemented at all stages throughout the construction process, particularly with respect to Sub-contractor management.
- Reviewing, in conjunction with the Q.A/QC manager and Project Managers, the effectiveness of the management systems as a means of achieving safety, quality and environmental objectives.
- To ensure that the project team comply with the Mercury Engineering project controls, processes and procedures.
- In conjunction with the Project Manager Ensure that staff are working efficiently and effectively.
- Review actual progress against planned and ensure that clear and concise reporting to the project team and Mercury Engineering Senior Management.
- Assessing, in conjunction with the Project Q.S. and Project Managers the financial and commercial contracting matters on the project.
- Ensure project reporting is clear and concise and reflects current project status.
- Ensure that packages and scope of works are developed on time and are reviewed prior to subcontracts being agreed.
- Ensure that client relations are maintained at all times.
- Deal with any internal or external disputes.
- Ensure change management is handled correctly (Cost & Programme).
Your Qualifications and Key Criteria:
- 3rd level qualification, Engineering Degree or recognised trade qualification
- 10+ years’ experience of managing large construction projects as a General Contractor Internationally.
- Proven track record running multiple projects across different regions
- German speaking would be an advantage.
- Ability to travel across multiple EU countries for this role.
- Contracts Management experience on large scale projects would be an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legislative guideline
- Proven ability to develop innovative solutions for increased productivity.
- Negotiation skills in both internal and external settings.
- Flexibility in working patterns where necessary.
- Ability to efficiently manage a team by setting expectations, delegation, and review.
- Strong communication & computer skills,
- Ability to work on own initiative and possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
